Custom Orders

Why Custom?

Custom art expands your horizons beyond the aisles of your local department store. It frees you to:

+ Stop settling for pieces that are in stock but... not quite your style

+ Skip those overused inspirational quotes

+ Trade cheaply-built items for quality work

Instead of replacing your art every few years, invest in hand-crafted art that both fits the specifications you have (size, color, and so on) and means something to you personally.

Gifts + Keepsakes

Custom art makes a wonderful gift, too. Whether you're shopping for a wedding, anniversary, milestone birthday, bridal shower, baby shower, or anything in between, let's work together to create a deeply personal piece for your loved one.

You can browse my gallery here—it’s formatted like a look-book you can scroll through to get some inspiration from past client work and an idea of my style.

(And if you're still not sure what to order, but still want to treat your loved one to something custom, buy them a gift card so they can design a piece they love!)

Signed Cricket's Mission

In a few words: make whimsical art accessible. Let me break down what that means.

  • Accessible information—plenty of details about my products and a transparent custom order process.  I believe you should be as involved in the process as you want to be, and comfortable with your decision to commission me.
  • Accessible design—because calligraphy that no one can read isn’t worth buying (yes, I went there). A readable website and emails are also high-priority here in order to make space for everyone.
  • Accessible pricing—a range of products and price points from printed greeting cards and gift tags to large, custom-built wood plaques.
If there's any way I can make things more accessible for you, please send me feedback here!

Custom Order Process

Your Information

After you fill out the form below, watch for your confirmation email! We'll communicate by email as needed until I have a clear picture of what you're looking for.

Important note: To protect your personal information and keep discussion about the project in one place, messages over SMS/text or third-party apps (like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram) will be redirected to email.

In the rare event that I'm not able to help you with the piece you had in mind, I'll let you know―and I'll point you to another artist who will be a better fit, if I can.

Your Payment

Using the information you've provided, I'll create a price quote and email it to you to look over. If there's anything you'd like to change, you are welcome to let me know. If not, great!

You'll be able to approve the quote, sign a short contract that protects both of us, and then make your first payment of 50% the quoted price―sent to you in one email.

All invoices are created by Signed Cricket's CRM software partner Dubsado; payments will be handled by PayPal or Stripe depending on your payment method of choice. Signed Cricket will never contact you to collect payment by phone, over text, or through a third-party messaging app.

Please allow at least 7-10 days after completing your questionnaire to receive your custom quote. Large or complex orders may require significantly more time.

Your Product

After the first payment, I'll create your art, starting with sketches and getting input from you along the way. You'll receive a photo of the finished piece to make sure you love it.

After your final payment, your package will be shipped to you!

Project Timing

Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks from the time your deposit is paid for your art to be completed. (Large or multiple-items orders will take longer.) This does not include shipping time, which will vary based on your location.

For projects with a firm deadline, include the deadline when filling out the inquiry form below, especially if the deadline is within 2 months from today's date. As a small business, Signed Cricket cannot guarantee project completion by any deadlines shared after the project has begun, which could result in your deadline being missed.

Rush order requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If approved, you will be charged a rush fee (see the Pricing Guide section below). If Signed Cricket cannot fulfill your request, you will be directed to another business able to take on the project.

Pricing Guide

Every order is different. However, I've put together a list of starting prices to give you an idea what to expect.

These prices apply to the art itself―shipping and framing not included. Here's why:

  • Shipping is determined by weight, dimensions, fragility, and your location. Once we've gotten clear about what your project will look like, I will be able to quote you a fair estimate specific to the project.
  • Frame styles and weights vary widely. Because they contain glass, they also require significantly more packaging and protection during shipping than unframed pieces do. Depending on what matters most to you, you have the option to purchase art either framed and ready to hang or unframed for you to frame on your own, later.

With that in mind, here's a starting price for each category of artwork.

  • Watercolor: $1.25/sq. in. (framing + matting separate)
  • Watercolor + Calligraphy: $1.25/sq. in. (framing + matting separate)
  • Calligraphy on Paper: $0.60/sq. in.
  • Calligraphy on Wood, single-board plaque: $0.50/sq. in.
  • Calligraphy on Wood, multiple boards attached together: $0.30/sq. in. for new shiplap, $0.45/sq. in. for upcycled pallet wood (due to the extra work required to prep planks for use)

Rush fees will be charged for projects that need to be completed in under 4 weeks from the deposit payment. The rush fee is calculated based on the quoted value of the project; for example, a $100 order being completed in 1-2 weeks (200% fee) will cost a total of $300.

  • 1-2 weeks: 200% rush fee
  • 2-3 weeks: 100% rush fee
  • 3-4 weeks: 50% rush fee
