Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room
Off to one side of my desk, there’s a little pile of unwrapped presents. My cutting mat and package scale are still out, plus a few stray pieces of kitchen twine from the order I packed this morning.
Amid all the reminders of things to clean up—to wrap—to bake—I have this phrase stuck in my head from “Joy to the World”:
“Let every heart prepare Him room.”
When Jesus came 2,000 years ago, very few people were waiting. Very very few.
And it’s not that they fell asleep waiting, like young kids on Christmas Eve. They didn’t know He was coming at all, and maybe… they didn’t really care.
Reading through the gospels shows us that after His birth, not much changed. He met many people during His short life here, but most either followed Him for what they could get (a free lunch or a healing) or turned away altogether.
Very few opened their hearts to Him and saw this gentle Man for Who He was, the Savior of the world.
Don’t miss Him this Christmas.
Don’t let holiday plans and beautiful traditions crowd in too close and numb you to eternity, to what matters most.
Make room for Him in your heart.
He came for you 💛
