This year calls for a backwards Black Friday.

Instead of panic and rush shipping, slow collecting. Instead of trendy items that'll be in a landfill by spring, treasures (or relationships) you'll enjoy for years.

Here are 3 ways to do this:

• Check Facebook for vendor markets near you for gifts like soaps, candles, books, crocheted items, wooden pieces, even clothing. These are also a fantastic way to meet your neighbors and gather ideas for special occasion gifts in future years!
• Make a day out of browsing local thrift stores to find new tablecloths, glassware, decor, and other household goods. Or break out your crafting supplies andrepurpose thrifted wall art, frames, or fabric into brand new items to give as gifts.
• Give experiences instead of stuff. There's something for every price point—from a crafting workshop, to a local zoo/aquarium/museum tour, to a coffee + pastry date at an independently owned coffee shop. (Not the company with the green mermaid logo—their workers are currently striking to receive livable wages + staffing)
